September is here, and it’s time to celebrate Happy Healthy Cat Month! As a proud cat parent to two Ragdolls, Bellamy and Liliana, I understand the joy and responsibility that comes with caring for our feline friends. This month serves as a reminder to focus on our cats’ wellbeing and ensure they lead happy, healthy lives.

  1. Nutrition: Fueling Their Bodies

A balanced diet is crucial for our cats’ health. I ensure Belli and Lily receive high quality, age-appropriate food to meet their nutritional needs. Regular feeding schedules and portion control help maintain a healthy weight and prevent obesity-related issues.

  1. Hydration: Keeping Them Refreshed

Cats can be finicky drinkers, but hydration is vital. I provide fresh water daily in multiple locations around the house and incorporate wet food into their diet to increase fluid intake. This helps prevent urinary tract issues and keeps their kidneys functioning optimally.

  1. Grooming: Maintaining Their Coat

Regular grooming not only keeps our cats looking their best but also promotes skin health. I brush Belli and Lily several times a week to prevent matting and reduce shedding. This also provides an opportunity to check for any skin abnormalities or parasites.

  1. Exercise: Keeping Them Active

Physical activity is essential for our cats’ mental and physical health. I engage Bellamy and Lily in interactive play sessions using toys that mimic prey, such as feather wands and laser pointers. This stimulates their hunting instincts and provides necessary exercise. Additionally, they enjoy time outdoors in the garden. Previously, they were limited to wearing harnesses for safety, but with the recent installation of cat-proof netting, they can now explore more freely and safely. This allows them to climb, investigate, and enjoy fresh air while still being protected.

  1. Veterinary Care: Regular Check-ups

Routine veterinary visits are essential for early detection of health issues. So schedule annual check-ups to ensure they are up-to-date on vaccinations and receive preventive care, such as flea and tick treatments.

  1. Enrichment: Stimulating Their Minds

Mental stimulation is just as important as physical activity. Puzzle feeders, scratching posts and climbing structures can do wonders for keeping their minds engaged and preventing boredom-related behaviours.

  1. Comfort: Creating a Safe Haven

A comfortable and safe environment is key to a happy cat. I ensure Bellamy and Lily have plenty of cosy resting spots, access to 3 clean litter boxes and a quiet spaces to retreat when they need solitude.
